Can you share more information about the Mako and how we plan to implement its broadcasting, its filming, any of that gameplay? Do we have a plan in place yet, or are we still figuring that out?asked by Griff Spector-Galmor
TL;DRMako broadcasting and filming gameplay is still being figured out; the bare-bones plan is an unobstructed camera view for the co-pilot, with more gameplay layered on over time and not the full scope hoped for.
So we're still figuring out a lot of stuff for the Mako. When that one was originally pitched and I was working on that, even to me, I was like, okay, this is a little bit lofty, but just the community interaction that you guys have brought to us, it's something that we want to make sure our streamers and our players have that kind of hook and that kind of opportunity for gameplay. So it's very much going to be like a layered-on system. It won't be the full scope of what everyone's probably hoping for, even five years out from launch type of gameplay opportunities. But at least in the very bare bones setup of it, we want to make sure that if you're the co-pilot on a Reliant Mako, you're looking through that camera, you have this just great unimpeded view. We want to make sure you won't have any HUD in the way so you can just capture a full-frame image of whatever you're pointing at, whatever you're looking at, looking at trying to do some better things to make sure you get enough zoom and distance so that you don't have to put your ship right in the middle of a firefight to get a couple good images. But then the long term is just to sort of layer on everything else that we can do with that and make it compelling. So some aspects of info running are even going to bleed into the news service aspect, where just identifying who was in what system and when, like tracking people's movements, tracking general intelligence about what is going on in a system. And making that another aspect where it's like, okay, hey, this reporter now just saw you effectively commit a war crime. Do you try and go chase them down? What if they get that back to the right news service in time? But a lot of these things are still those layered-on gameplay features that we need to build on the pieces that we know we can do really well now, and then just slowly keep moving forward and adding newer and newer layers on top of that to really flesh something out.
Basically what the core of the entire Star Citizen experience is: build it right in front of the people. They'll see an early version and then it will continue to iterate.
It's been kind of our philosophy all along. We know where we want to go, but we know the tech that we have currently to build it. So we'll put in the initial versions and then build on that over time as new tech comes in.
