What are you working on [for the website]? Have you got anything you want to show us?

TL;DRBien shows work in progress on the website, including an interactive ship page with specs still awaiting 3D renders, and a real-time crowdfunding timeline graph.

I'm working on the website. Actually, what I'm doing right now is I'm building some interactive components for the ship page on the e-commerce side. This is where you're going to go to buy the ship. So right now, here's the page. And as we scroll down, you can see some parallax in the grid. This is the idea behind this. This is the description pane. Like promotional graphics. We're probably going to have a video for each ship that we're going to display. Scroll down here, we have some interactive component. This basically is the specs of the ship. You'll be able to see the thrusters, the hardpoints, and the specs, and it will map out to the position on the ship. And so what you can do here is you can rotate this. We're going to have items frequently purchased with this. And this page is just showing the Aurora as an example, but we'll have other ships like the 300i and Constellation and whatnot. The idea behind this is that it's going to rotate in 3D, but I'm still waiting on some renders from our 3D guys, so I'm just iterating over the hues.

We can go on over to the home page. I can't show too much of this, but here's the crowdfunding timeline. So we're going to have a graph that you can view by week, by month. And it will change. Still got to get the x-axis in there, but that's basically it.

And that does it in real time, does it?

Yeah, it does it in real time. These numbers will update. So there's a lot of users on the forums who have asked for numbers, the amount pledged, to be counting up in real time instead of having to refresh the page all the time, which creates load on the servers.

Yes, it does. We crash our servers frequently sometimes.

Up here you have the navigation, we have categories. So if we go on over to our account page, this is where you can manage your name, your email, your profile, and all that.

This is months and months of work. What did you start from? Didn't you have some frames or something?

Yeah, so when I went up to Montreal, we basically sat down for a week, and what we did was we spec'd out everything that needed to be on the website. We took a look at the current website and all of the faults that it has in terms of user experience and navigation, navigating the site. It's really confusing right now. So we took a look at that and then we had a whole room, the wall was all whiteboard. So we were just mapping things out and discussing the architecture and what would be the best way to design the site so that it's really usable and easy to navigate.

Do you have anything special for the hangar [Wingman's Hangar on the new website]?

I do have something special. So we've got what's called an event page. This is a post type, which is an event. This will count down to a live event. And here it's live: Wingman's Hangar is live. This is just a kind of placeholder, but that's basically gonna be counting down to the live event.

That is totally cool.

Yeah, it's a binary countdown.

Binary countdown, so people can come on here and if they know binary, they can start the countdown with us.

Well, they can kind of see it. So now it's just counting down. And eventually it'll go to that live that we just saw and the video will start playing.

Will the AMX-1 repair droid be a hangar feature, or will it be more like an R2-D2 equivalent on board the player's ship?asked by Gregor M

Yeah, your AMX droid will go with you into space. As long as you have room in your ship, it'll be there repairing things as you go, and you'll be able to upgrade it and make it more efficient as it's repairing. So if you have a smaller ship and you don't have room for it, you're not going to have room for it, but I suspect we'll have room for most of the ships.

Are we going to have a library allowing an Arduino chip to dialogue with CryEngine? This would allow the makers to build a physical cockpit with LED switches and encoders.asked by Mark Eben

First of all, that is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. So the answer to that question is: if we have time. I mean, it literally is a matter of, yes, we're makers too. We love that stuff. So we're going to support as much as we can. It's probably one of those things that might not be there release one, but we'll eventually get there. It's just a matter of we've got to get the main part of the game done first, and then we can start adding a lot of things like that in there. And by the way, big up for that. It's really, really cool.

Will the new RSI website go live at the same time as the 24-hour stream starts?asked by Hackadek

Yeah. Of course. That's what the 24-hour live stream is about. And I know the date and I'm just not going to tell you. So it's coming up. We're getting ready for it. It's going to be a really, really good time. We're lining up some really cool stuff to do: some reveals, some fun, some fan stuff. We're organizing exactly how we're going to do it, whether it's from one location or here in LA. Sandy's hard at work. She's cranking away, coming up with a POA for our LSE: Plan of Action for Livestream Event. That's right, I can acronym all day. So yeah, absolutely.

Would I be able to link any forum gallery I have created directly to my hangar, allowing others to view my wondrous art?asked by Pease

Yeah, absolutely. The idea here is that we're toying with allowing there to be a piece of canvas in your hangar that you can put your own thing on, but we have to be careful. As we all know, some people tend to put rather nefarious or odd-looking things, porn perhaps, on their stuff. And it may have to have an approval process. We'll see how that goes. It may be one of those deals where you can see it, and maybe your fans or your friends can say, I want to see it, and they take the risks themselves. We have to work out how that all works, but we definitely intend to try to let you guys do that.

Will we be able to create custom jobs, orders and assassinations, and post them to a global job board?asked by Gaz Animal

Yes. That's part of the fun. I mean, you want to put a hit out on somebody? Absolutely, we'll put it out there and it can be taken up by somebody else. That's kind of what we want to do. We want you guys, the users, to drive the lore of the universe. We want you to drive a lot of the gameplay. A lot of the events will be centered around conflicts that clans or guilds have together. So absolutely that stuff will happen. There'll be a lot of stuff generated by the system itself, but a lot of it's going to be created by humans, because we humans tend to be conflicting. So we're going to play with that, have some fun with it. So yes, yes, and yes.

If we are able to wear regular clothes in spaceships and stations, getting ejected into space or sucked out of a hull breach would be immediately fatal. Is there some sort of benefit to wearing regular clothes, or will it be relegated to planet surfaces and roleplayers?asked by Frederick K

That's why we're giving you a space suit. I mean, I know that getting sucked out of a hole makes it tough to breathe. Ask our own Peter Mackey, the weather wizard. He knows all about that. But space suits will allow and protect you a bit on that. We don't want everybody to be sucked out and shrinking up à la Arnold Schwarzenegger, or maybe we do.

Will there be species other than human to choose from?asked by JIT 86

Not right away. Mostly we're going to be playing human at the beginning, but we're not going to say no to that, because we expect this game to be around for a very, very long time and we think it'd be very cool to play other species too. But for the first iteration, we're concentrating on getting the humans right.

If we're flying multi-crew ships solo, will we be able to hire NPC crew to help man the ship? What about NPCs to work the manual turrets?asked by Quarrel

Absolutely. You'll be able to hire NPCs to do those things. And they're going to be rated. They're going to have rankings and things of that nature. So the better ones, the more accurate ones, will be more expensive. You can always go get some slob from a drug-addled street corner and throw them in there. But he's not going to hit a lot. He might even hit your own tail. Who knows? So yeah, there'll absolutely be NPCs to crew your ship. That's going to be kind of fun. You can see them wandering around and doing stuff.

When we find an asteroid base in the Persistent Universe, can we install mods on it, like stealth technology, to keep it hidden from other players?asked by Ken Shadow

Wow, love the Ken Shadow videos. But I have to tell you, no, we're not going to let you cloak asteroid bases. If you find them, you'll be able to put defenses up to stop people from getting there. But we don't want you to hide stuff. Could you imagine if people could hide all the cool stuff? All the cool stuff would be completely hidden. Then you'd have to discover things that are hidden. So we want you guys to be in conflict. We want you to have to fight over stuff. So no, sorry, you find it, you're going to have to protect it. But you can't hide it.
