Turrets on our multi-crew ships right now are not the most responsive, and not the most fun gameplay experience at the moment. What are we doing to improve turret performance?
TL;DRTurret improvements are being tested internally, mainly a floating reticle the turret catches up to plus better facing feedback in the UI, with no promise it will be adopted.
A lot of testing, really. So we're trying a lot of different ideas. Chris has a really good direction on what we want to try, and this is something that we're just doing internally right now. The turrets as they work right now, you sit in it, you've got a crosshair, and you are moving the crosshair, and that's how it's moving with you now. The problem with this is that it's actually not like anything else in your ship. If you're sitting in the pilot seat, you've got a nice floating reticle, and everything sort of follows up behind that. What we want to do is implement that, have it sort of like a floating-type reticle that the turret will sort of catch up to. The problem with that is the responsiveness. You've got to make sure that that moves fast enough. And if it moves too fast, it feels super fakey. If it doesn't move fast enough, it doesn't feel responsive enough. And there's no promise that we're going to do this. We're going to try it internally and we're going to see if that feels any better, is the thing. The other thing that I think will help a lot is just a little bit of feedback on where your ship is facing. And this has everything to do with UI: which way your ship is facing, which way your turret is facing. That's pretty much all I know right now on the multi-crew turrets. But I know there's guys in the UK really looking at this pretty hard right now. I'm just not super involved in it, that's all.
