Who ultimately comes up with the ship name?asked by Kat Navido
TL;DRShip naming is collaborative, but overwhelmingly the lore team decides the names, though others like Jared Huckaby have named some, including the Hercules and the Harbinger part of the Vanguard.
I can tell you from experience, it's a very collaborative effort. I have named several ships in the Star Citizen universe. Basically, the call goes out. We collect names from all over the place. You don't say this person or that person can't provide a good idea. But most of the names are decided by the lore team. And the lore team is fantastic at taking in input. But I would say overwhelmingly the names come from the lore team. Which ones did I name? I named the Hercules. It was originally just the Starlifter. It was called the Starlifter through all of development. It was like a week before it got revealed to everybody, and I went to Chris and I was like, it's missing a name. What do you mean? Well, we have the Genesis Starliner, and we knew we had the Mercury Star Runner coming up. Then you have the Starlifter. It's missing a name. And he said, well, what would you call it? And I said, well, it's kind of based on the C-10, the Hercules and stuff. So just call it Hercules. That's what it does. I named the Vanguard Harbinger. I named the Harbinger part of the Vanguard. I named the Harbinger because I was a big fan of the Valiant comic book and it had just been relaunched around that time, or they were just talking about a relaunch around that time. The C-130. We've already revealed that I'm having some serious jet lag today. One or two others, but it's hard for me to remember right now. One of the best things about CIG as a company is the collaborative nature. If you've got a good idea, you've got an idea that can help move the game forward and make the game better, we don't turn you off because that's not your job or that's not your position or whatever. I'm very proud of that aspect of this company.
