Hey Randy, I love the side-opening part of the Caterpillar. It's still my Thunderbird 2. Will both sides open? And what happens if both sides are open in flight, as the ship is no longer a contained mini-instance? Basically, will ammo go clean through without hitting anything?

TL;DRBoth Caterpillar sides will open as clamshells and bullets should pass through if nothing is in the way, though there will usually be something inside to hit.

If there's nothing to hit.

Yeah, I don't see why not. Ideally, that's what we're doing. So thank you, first of all. Yes, both sides will open up. It'll be the clamshell opening on both sides. And then if it's not hitting anything, then the bullets should go straight through. Because we're going to be also, maybe, possibly, if people are set up and you pull up next to a thing, I can see people shooting a gun outside this thing, as well as bullets should be able to be shot right back in.

Although I'm still wondering, there's almost always going to be something to hit inside a Caterpillar. Getting that kind of through and through probably won't be that common.

What if you fly through it? M50 straight through, or Merlin even?

Ben LesnickDirector of Community Engagement, Online Strategy and Spaceships

Merlin would definitely do that. M50 could probably fit as well. Are you going to be impacted by gravity though once you enter it?

Calix ReneauDesigner

Yeah, but the thrusters are strong enough to deal with it. You'll see them actually, they'll have to rotate to adjust to that. You have the same issue when you fly directly over a landing pad, because there's gravity there too. Although it's not a separate physics grid. It's more complicated on the back end, but what actually happens will be the same.
