Any thoughts on Aurora Borealis?

TL;DRThe developers like the idea of auroras and think it may be easier than other atmospheric effects, but they haven't had creative direction to do it and it is only plausible, not planned.

That one does actually come up a bit. We would kind of like that one. All of the stuff in the atmosphere ends up being quite difficult though. Especially when they interact with each other. So the clouds and the atmosphere in the same volume and then the rain is covering the same and then the ground fog. These things are all overlapping and quite problematic. For the Aurora Borealis, I take it. I mean, I've not looked at the science, but I assume it's always above the cloud layer, isn't it? And if it is, that at least simplifies the problem a bit for the rendering side. We've certainly made accidents that look like Aurora before in VFX and graphics. Usually bugs, sometimes intentional from artists. Yeah, that's one I quite like, personally. And it's possibly easier than some of the others. But it's also quite separate. We have to intentionally decide we're going to stop doing this. Aurora is what we want to do. We haven't quite had the creative direction telling us to do that now. Maybe we want Aurora for this next release, but it's certainly plausible. That came from up above.
