Developers answer community questions on exploration income through selling or mining new jump points, stranded-ship options like distress beacons and black holes, ship and hangar customization, Oculus Rift support, the new RSI site rollout, and a Gamescom event.
Yeah, of course you can make money by exploring. Finding new jump coordinates, you can turn them into the local authorities and sell them that way by naming it, or you can keep it to yourself and mine all the goodies out of it yourself. There's going to be more systems to discover. It's not just going to be, I don't want to give too much away, but you will absolutely be able to make money as an explorer, no doubt about it.
Well, Hermits, if you've been following us all along, you know that we are dorks just like everybody else, right? We love Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Firefly, Star Trek, Star Wars, all that kind of stuff. So if you followed along and you knew the initial password to get into the site was 42, which was an homage to Squadron 42, by the way, then yeah, of course, look for Easter eggs. We love doing stuff like that, and we love you guys noticing them and trying to find them. There might be some in most Wingman's Hangar shows, too. You just got to try to find them.
Well, I'm not sure about celebrities, but Chris, Sandy, myself, maybe Michael, some others will be there. And we plan to have a little event for the Star Citizen card holders and all the backers out there. I'd love to come and rub elbows and maybe break a pint together. So look for details on that coming up this summer.
Unjustly targeted by the UEE? Unjustly? I don't think so. I think, good sir, that if you've been targeted by the UEE, you know exactly what you did and it's justifiable. That being said, there's always ways to bribe your way out, or you can hack and fight your way out. Who knows?
TL;DRThe new site is a bigger task than expected, with parts arriving through the summer and the first bit out in May, and a sign-up for roughly 100 passionate beta testers to be announced soon.
Well, this ended up being a much bigger task because what we found out is that while we're doing this, it's huge, it's monumental. There's so many different elements. The first one we did was done really easily. We didn't expect to have such a large community. It really knocked things out on Reddit. We knocked our own site down a few times. So we're doing this one right. To answer the question, some parts of the new site will be coming along all through the summer. I think it'll finally be around mid-August when it'll all be finished. But the first bit will be out in May. We will start beta testing. There will be a sign-up period. We're looking for 100 or so of the most passionate people that will help us test the site and get things going. So look for an announcement fairly quickly about how to sign up for that and what we'll be doing. But yeah, there will be a way for a strike team to get in there and help us test it early. So we're counting on you guys to do that.
You betcha. Of course we're going to let you customize ships, man. That's part of the whole thing. We'll let you customize your hangar. It's going to be all about blinging it up. Eventually, we'll even have the hangar of the week on the Hangar Show. And yes, eventually we'll also allow you to visit each other's hangars, check them out, see what your buddy's done in his or hers. And that's absolutely part of the program. It's still TBD when that will be, whether it's version one, two, three, four, when that comes online. But it is absolutely in the pipeline.
TL;DRPlayers can get stranded, but they plan ways to call for help such as nanny ships, guild members or distress beacons, though they're not yet sure how black holes will be handled.
Stranded? You mean you run out of fuel, you get blown up, you're just about dead and you get the other guy first? Or you go through a black hole, right? You could absolutely get stranded in space. We'll have ways of calling in nanny ships or your guild members or friends or sending out distress beacons, things of that nature. But we're not sure how we're gonna handle the black holes yet. There's been a lot of talk of maybe if your ship's strong enough you can get through and get launched into some other section in space that you've already discovered, but we're not sure how exactly we're gonna handle that. So we'll never leave you completely stranded and dead in the atmosphere, dead in space, because that would be just boring. But we will create some sort of stuff for you to do while you're waiting for help to arrive.
That's a great question. We would love to be able to show you concept art and sketches of the Aurora. It's coming up pretty soon, in the next week or so. You're just going to have to wait, I think. Sorry.
Yeah, we get almost all of our feedback, questions and everything from the forums. We do monitor some of the other sites, but we would prefer to keep everything on one, and that's where we want all the community. That's where the best source of information is on the game. So the more you need to know or the more you want to be involved, be on the RSI forums. That's where you need to be.
I can see everybody out there. Whoa, I see you guys very well. And it looks like the Winger's not the only one who can shed a few LBs. Guess what, folks? The Oculus Rift dev kits came in. Ooh, baby! And yeah, we're definitely going to let you look around the cockpit. We promised that the whole time. We do that kind of support. We'll be supporting it with this device for sure. And by the way, first time my Winger tried that out, man, I got a little nauseous. But after a while, it was just incredible. It's just an incredible experience. I mean, Chris talks about immersion. Man, it's coming. And you guys are going to dig it. The people who get the Oculus Rift, wow. It's going to be an incredible gaming experience.
Another excellent video of Kinshadow. Love it. We are not sure about that. I mean, whether it'll be indigenous life forms to shoot at, but maybe the crystalline entities like in Star Trek or something, or maybe space whales or space spiders, or perhaps space spiders and space whales fighting over a space lube. Who knows? But right now, we haven't decided that. Most of our fights can be combat-oriented in your cockpit, so maybe there's a space whale out there that's trying to eat you.
