Will a true velocity indicator be added, one that shows true speed and not just longitudinal?

Yeah, absolutely. That was one of the feedback things that we got from a lot of people at CitizenCon. So yeah, absolutely.

So do we know how that's going to manifest itself? Is it just going to be another tick on the UI?

So we still haven't really decided, because again this came out of feedback from CitizenCon, but the options are pretty much to replace the current velocity indicator with the true velocity indicator, or to have two and have the true velocity one and then the forward one.

Maybe that's something that can be customized through the component system; you'll be able to choose.

Probably more a front-end option than componentizing it. There's arguments for both options, and in scenarios like that, it's usually easier to put it in the options menu and let people pick what they prefer.
