Will we be able to hear atmospheric storms off in the distance so we can prepare before the storm hits?
TL;DRTentatively yes: distant storm sounds would likely follow if there's a distant visual effect, since current weather sounds only play once you're inside it, and supporting tech is months away.
Yes. I'm just looking at Graham for how we do this.
A lot of it comes down to whether there's a visual effect at distance, because that's what we will generally sort of bang our audio on. If there's a distant visual effect, then yes, we can absolutely telegraph an approaching storm, and I would like to think there would be, so I'm going to say tentatively, yes, we would be doing that.
[We have] sounds for all of the different weather that we have right now, all of the snow on microTech and stuff, but it has to have already reached you before you get it, because it's based off if you're inside of the zone of the weather. That would be a nice addition to it.
Certainly, we're working on tech that kind of helps us to do things like crowding distant sounds, allowing us to express a distant collection of sounds as a single sound and that kind of thing. So there's potentially a lot of tech that's, again, down the line, months down the line, that we could use to achieve that sort of thing.
