We throw out the term gunship a lot. How does a gunship differ from just a normal fighter, per se, like in combat?
John Crewe · Vehicle Pipeline Director

So the gunships in Star Citizen, they're less about dogfighting. They're more about sort of... I'm going to do the Chris arm-wave combat explanation. If it works. Our fighters sort of zip and zoom around all over the place, whereas the gunships tend to just stick on one path. They have a lot of weaponry that can point in a single direction or can converge on a single point, so they can just hammer around it. The modern-day equivalent is the AC-130 gunships that just hover around a war zone in a big loop; they can have all their guns on one side so they can just keep it all on target the entire time. And that's sort of what we have with our gunships. They have turrets, they have gimbaled weapons, and they can all align to one position to give a huge amount of firepower.
