What's the difference between a feature team and a content team?
John Crewe · Vehicle Director

So a feature team is primarily programmers with design support, and then we sort of dip into the other downstream teams. Maybe we'll be doing a feature like hover mode. So Dave would be doing programming, we'd have the design team retuning the ships, we'd need tech art to help make the thrusters behave visually how we want. Content teams is primarily just the ship art team and design, and then those same downstream teams. So they're making the actual ships. The feature teams are making the features that make the ships ships.

Jared Huckaby · Host, Community

And then of course, kind of outside the periphery, you have the gameplay system designers who are doing things like mining or salvaging that are designed independently of the ships.

John Crewe · Vehicle Director

Yes, so the vehicle teams use those features that the other gameplay teams do. So we have other teams like the actor team who are dealing with things like healing and body dragging and all that sort of stuff, that are not vehicle-specific features, but vehicles will use them. Mining, yeah, a good example of something. So whilst the first instance of mining in Star Citizen was on a vehicle, it was developed as a general system that was then expanded into handheld mining.
