[Why is it that] every derelict I see is either a Starfarer, a Caterpillar or a Constellation?

TL;DRDerelicts take time to mark up and create, so it comes down to priorities, and the ship team must also make destroyed versions of more ships, with extra derelicts getting done only when artists have spare time.

It's part of what we just showed. It takes a while to mark up and create those derelicts, and it's just a matter of priorities. They just have to have the time and the resources to go through and make additional derelicts.

And of course, the ship team has to make more destroyed versions of whatever ships they have and give us those assets that we can actually work with as well.

Like most things in game development, it always just comes down to a priority. An artist can be working on additional derelicts or they can be working on something for a new location. It's one of those things that comes in towards the end of sprints, like when somebody finishes a sprint early. It's rare, but it happens. When somebody finishes a sprint early, it's like, okay, let's go and do another derelict, or let's go and do another turtle in a bucket.
