Team chat: improvements to the team chat system that will polish communication between players and make the experience more robust and intuitive. Work on this system will also begin to factor in the incorporation of Spectrum into the game.
TL;DRRoberts says the in-game chat is the original, untouched implementation, so it needs work to fit friends and groups, tie into the Spectrum platform, and prepare for voice and face tech planned for 3.3.
Yeah, well, we've talked a long time, and one of the reasons why we did the whole Spectrum setup on the platform is the idea that we're going to unify the friends list and all the rest of the stuff that you'll make on the platform side, and it can also be replicated down on the game side so you don't have to maintain parallel lists. But basically the chat feature in the game right now is the chat that was in from the very beginning. We spent no time on it other than just fixing it if it breaks in the game. How does that work with your list of friends or groups? And so again, along with getting together with your friends, getting into the game, having an ability to chat with them in your various setups or groups is super important. And it's also a precursor to the FOIP stuff that's going to come in with 3.3. So we want to get it in there and make that easy. Because right now, everyone's in a general chat, which is cool. And even that's still, like I said, the implementation of chat that we had before we even did the PU.
