If you had to explain what Turbulent is, detached from CIG, what is Turbulent?
Benoit Beausejour · Chief Technology Officer, Turbulent

So I've been wondering that question for a while. Turbulent is a company that I started with my partner Mark in 2002, where we both met in other companies and we sort of became the rescue fire team on many technology projects. We had the opportunity to start a company with a very small project, but it was like the seed of something. And so we started Turbulent as a, oh, you've got technology to do? Like, yeah, we can do it, right? And so we started as we would take any kind of gig. And over the years, we sort of specialized in certain clients in the media and entertainment business. So initially on the web, then closer to games, then closer to even TV show, movie, film, where we build custom technologies for interactive works or VR et cetera. So we sort of became specialists in the crazy projects, right? We've even done some installations in Philly for a local artist in Montreal that had a super large installation to do with 10,000 spots in downtown Philly. And it was like last minute, we need a gang of thinkers to figure out a solution to this. So that became sort of our calling card. And obviously, we've both been gamers, Mark and I, very different types of gamers, but we've always been close to games. And so we always wanted to get closer to the video games industry. Obviously, we're in Montreal, which is, video games is a huge business in our city. And just around our office, there's just a million studios, right? And so it was easy for us to get close and then start building technology for games. And that's basically how, through projects, we got to meet Chris and then fall in love with the project.
