Why don't we have an option to hold out an object for another player to take directly from our hands? It would simplify tasks that are currently complicated to do safely, like handing off a tractor beam to a friend who needs one.asked by Brigid

TL;DRDirect hand-offs between players are technically possible, but fidelity, the risk of others grabbing or stealing items, and loss of safety are concerns, and whether to build it is a design and prioritization decision.

So that actually brings me into my first point, which is fidelity. In Star Citizen, it's all about fidelity. We want everything to be immersive and keep you there. And two players performing together is always quite challenging. The takedown becomes a little bit easier because it's a... less peaceful.

Well, it always has one final destination.

Exactly. And body carry or body dragging tends to be more, you know, you're already out. One of the persons is in a position where we know kind of what they're going to be doing. We're obviously two players goofing around doing all these things and one is trying to give something to another. But I think the other point is obviously the security of it: if I hand something over, if I want Benoit to have it, I don't want Carl to come running in and grabbing it from me. Or a system like that opening up an avenue for people to take things unfairly from other players. Those are the main considerations, I would say: the safety and security of them, and knowing that you're not going to lose your stuff.

So I'd like to bring it back to the question: why don't we already have it? Well, it's technically possible. There's a bunch of challenges to resolve, like we've just talked about, but ultimately it's a design question. It's a prioritization question. Do we want to do this over doing something else? Do we want this in the game? Those are questions for our creative director, game director. And it'll be in their minds, I'm certain. And then when it comes up, we'll have solutions ready if we want to do it.
