How are the directional rain and snow effects going with regard to wind direction?

TL;DRThe directional rain and snow effects should work with wind direction, so problems on some ships are likely UV or flat-plane edge cases, and players should report affected ships to the Issue Council.

Mike SnowdonVFX Director

It should. I think I'm allowed to say it should be working. The setup that we created for those directional effects was incredibly complex, actually, an intricate setup. And it is actually taking the wind strength and direction, isn't it, Leo?

Leo VansteenkisteVFX Programmer

Yeah. So we're using the movement direction, the wind direction, the gravity, I think, as well. It might be a bug where we're simulating the raindrops on a flat plane, and the plane then needs to be wrapped on the different faces of the canopy and the glass. So either there is something wrong with the UVs, which map the flat plane to the mesh, or it's one of the edge cases where, because it's simulated on a flat plane, we can't really get all the directions perfectly covered. And that might be an edge case. So we have to see the ship itself and see how it behaves and maybe send it to our team to fix up the UVs. It could be a few things.

Mike SnowdonVFX Director

Yeah, we knew, didn't we, that some of the ships would probably provide more extreme edge cases than others as well.

Leo VansteenkisteVFX Programmer

Yeah, it should be working for most ships in most cases.

Report ships that are not working to the Issue Council, if possible.
