Why can big ships be pushed around so easily by smaller ships?asked by Michael S.

TL;DRPhysics needs work and big ships are pushed around too easily, but physics is taking a backseat to Item 2.0 during a tech transition, with hopes to improve it sooner rather than later.

Yeah, so our physics does need a little work. When things blow up, it's like papier-mâché sometimes, and it just troubles me. So we're looking at those kinds of things, and hopefully we can get to that sooner rather than later.

So you're saying those Glaives that come down and pick up a Constellation and pile drive it off the platform, that's not supposed to be like that?

Launching a human. I love the EVA guys, and they launch themselves at the ship and come in and just blow it out with themselves. That's so funny. We definitely want the most realistic physics as we can. We're just in a transition period with the tech, so the actual physics is taking a backseat to Item 2.0. What that will bring, which is not only different types of interactivity, it's also networking sync, but it also has a lot to do with optimization. One thing we found was the interior of the ship needs to be separate from the exterior of the ship, but the way CryEngine works is, if you want to interact with the inside, it has to be part of the outside. So I won't go into more detail with that, but when we can truly separate the interior from the exterior with Item 2.0, we'll be able to cull out a lot of the geometry that you're seeing or you're drawing from a distance, and therefore you'll have better performance. So we're looking forward to that.
