Is gravity something that was already in CryEngine when we started?

Sean TracyTechnical Director of Content

No, there was no gravity in CryEngine when we started. We just floated around in zero G in every single game. I'm just teasing you. Yes, of course, we had gravity within CryEngine, but one thing to keep in mind was that the gravity was a perfectly downward Z vector, like a negative Z vector. We didn't have the idea of a spherical gravity shape, right? So then when you're sitting on this side of the planet being pulled to the center of mass for the planet, that was never a concept that we had before. So our very, very high level, or low level, that's funny. Whenever we talk about programmers, sometimes, like a really good programmer, sometimes we say a high-level programmer, but the best programmers are the low-level programmers. So it's like saying a low-level physics programmer, Chris Rain.
