The developers answer fan questions on community polls, private servers with scripting, and moving around ships during combat. They also cover salvage and derelicts, CryEngine customization, ship repair careers, and the new website's account and pledge tools.
Well, we take polls very seriously. Just look at that handle system poll. We thought we had a really, really good way of doing it, and we put it out there to you guys, wanted to get your opinions, and you guys came up with some incredibly cool ideas, and we're like, yeah, that actually works better. So we value your input very much. We poll the community on a lot of the very important things in the game. We think it's crucial. Are we surprised? Not really, because you guys are incredible, and we expect that out of you. A lot is expected out of you fans.
On your own server, you can do whatever you want. You can fully script events, things of that nature. You won't be able to put them up into the verse, at least onto our servers, unless they've been approved and run through our QA group. But yeah, on your own servers, it's kind of like running your own MMO, essentially. Your own community game, or MMO, whatever you want to call it.
What? Of course we're going to do a 24-hour show. We're excited about it. It's incredible. It's not always about raising money. It's more about involving the team. It's interacting directly with you guys. It's getting you involved in the process. We're going to have some stuff from you on the show. It really is, we're kind of making this game together. And so it's fun to reach out and virtually handshake at certain times. And 24-hour webcasts are fun. So you know what? Yeah, we're going to do it. We're excited. It's a good way to blow off a little steam.
McQueen, it's a very important job keeping the Warspite on the straight and narrow. To answer your question, you are going to be able to move around your ship during a battle and while it's being jostled. I'm not sure how much the gravity will affect, how much being able to bounce off walls and stuff will happen. That's kind of going to be determined in gameplay. We'll put that through the paces in the dogfighting app. We'll let you guys have some feedback. Talk to us, what you liked, what you didn't like. But I'll tell you what, if you're up walking around your ship and you're supposed to be manning a gun, that's not good for the ship or the rest of your crew. Get back to your station, soldier, now.
There certainly will be salvaging. There'll be derelict ships in the universe for you to discover and loot. Also, we're still trying to figure out exactly what's going to be left behind when ships blow up, if you've blown up your enemy. They might leave something really, really cool behind. It probably won't be completely intact, but you'll be able to salvage it because the game isn't going to have skill, so you should be able to destroy something really cool and get something. Again, that's one of those things we'll have to balance together.
While the CryEngine is very impressive, it was designed mostly for a first-person shooter. So we're doing a significant amount of customization for Star Citizen because we have bigger universes, we have a lot more places to go. And you would have to do that with any engine. You're going to have to customize for your particular game. So yes, customization is definitely going on. And we're lucky to have the support of the Crytek team as we do this. Incredibly important.
Well, as you know, in the campaign, there is a repair bot that already works on your ship. But I think what you're asking is, can you have somebody that you hire that runs around repairing or tweaking your ship as a career? We've been toying with that idea of allowing people to take things, modify them, and then resell them in the community. I know that Chris is keen on that. And I think that we've talked about that. It's going to be a balancing aspect, how we work it in. So that's going to be one of those things that is TBD. But I think it is something that is really cool and makes a lot of sense to happen if we can get it right.
Well, I'm doing a variety of things right now. I'm working on the new website and the e-commerce components that are going to be available on the new site that'll allow people to manage their accounts and their pledges and do a lot of stuff that you can't do on the current site.
TL;DREric Peterson thinks players will like the new website, citing great design, support for all devices, better pledge and ship customization, gifting, and tagging and series for content so Comm-Link updates and shows are easier to find.
I think so. I think it's really cool. First of all, it's going to look really, really cool. The design work that Zane is doing is just out of this world fantastic. It's so cool. It's probably the coolest thing I've seen. And it'll be really flexible, so you can look at it on your computer or your laptop or your tablet or your phone. You can interact with it. It's going to be really, really cool. Also, it's going to be a lot more functional. You're going to be able to really customize all of your pledges and outfit all your ships and buy stuff and gift stuff. It's going to be really cool.
Yeah, and also, one of the things right now, you have the Comm-Link and we put some pretty cool updates up and then they get pushed down to the bottom. So we have like 10 updates a week. So there's some cool stuff that gets lost in there. Now we're going to let you tag it. We're going to tag it to where you can easily search and find important things like Death of a Spaceman that Chris did or something like that.
Yeah, one of the features on the content section of the new site is that you'll be able to see things as part of a series. So if you want to go and look at all the Wingman's Hangar shows, for instance, you could go back and you could see all of them at once. They would all be tagged the same, just like you were saying. Or you could go back and you could look at all the Death of a Spaceman stories and you could see them all tagged the same. It's going to be a lot easier to find stuff and to sort stuff, and it's just going to be good.
That's good, and that'll help a lot because we get a lot of new people in every day and they ask a lot of the same questions because they're new to the game and they're new to the site, and this will be a nice way for people to educate themselves and get into the game, and people in the forums that are helpful can point their way.
