What is your most valuable virtue in QA, and why is it patience?
TL;DRPatience matters, but the panel also names memory for recurring bugs and curiosity for following one issue to the next, noting that one fix often branches into many others.
I think Jack can answer this the best, to be honest. You deal with the most crashes on your team, I think.
The stream I work on is notorious for being potentially the least stable one in the game. Patience is obviously a big part of it, but I think the thing I've used the most since I moved on to the core team is my memory, remembering things. A lot of issues tend to maybe disappear and then come back. And after a while, you just remember the really bad ones. So something might appear that's been gone for three months, and you can just look at it and go, oh, I know exactly what that is, I've seen that before. And you'll go and find it, and you'll link it back up, and you'll escalate with the devs and go, this has started happening again. What did you do, please? Please help.
The other one I'd say is curiosity, quite a bit, because you find something which isn't quite right, and you pull the string, and then you find something else, and then you find something else, and then you find something else.
I think that is a lot of what a lot of people don't really understand about QA sometimes. There's one thing, and you think, oh, that's fine, it's an easy fix. But then that will branch off into 100,000 different things that need to be fixed: so does that, so does that, so does that, before this main thing can be fixed. It branches off so much. Game dev is so complex, it's crazy.
