Will the 890 Jump receive the two additional dedicated point defense turrets?
TL;DRNo extra turrets are planned for the 890 Jump; instead some existing remote turrets will become automated point defense through AI blades, which makes them technically an upgrade.
So there's no plans to add any additional turrets, but what will happen is some of the existing remote turrets will be automatically turned into point defense with AI blades. So they will function as the point defense. I think it's already got one or two more than the original brochure amount had, and that's what they're for.
We talked a little bit about this the last time the three of us were all together back in July when I was in the Wilmslow studio. So people understand, eventually, and you can actually check this out on the Shipyard series of articles that are available on robertspaceindustries.com. Literally, it's just on the main page. Just scroll down a bit, and you'll see a whole little bar with all the Shipyard articles about how this stuff works. AI blades will be a thing that you'll be able to install into ships in the future, and you'll turn those remote turrets into automated turrets, which are essentially the same thing as point defense turrets.
Point defense is sort of the old name that we used to call them by. People still use it, but yeah. Turrets will be able to be modified in the future. So a manned turret, you can man it with a human. If you don't have any human friends on board, you could hire an NPC, or you could use a blade to slave it to the pilot seat, or you could use a blade to automate it. And it's the same for remote.
So really what we've done is we've taken turrets that originally were only automated, and we've now given them the opportunity to be automated or remote controlled.
Yes.
So it's actually an upgrade.
Technically, yes.
