I play with very good speakers capable of going down in bass. Do you consider sub bass in all explosions, etc.? I'd like to hear some deep growls.asked by Voon

Ross TregenzaSenior Sound Designer, Foundry 42 UK

Well, the other guys in the sound team, particularly two of our guys, Darren and Luke, are working pretty hard on that at the moment, actually. For us, sub bass is a tricky one, because everybody loves huge boomy explosions and stuff, but it needs to be used very carefully and very considerately. Whenever somebody starts sound designing, in your first week in the job you're like, dude, I'm going to make the biggest explosion in the world. And then you realize you can't have that, because it all adds up. So they're working on systems that will manage, in an intelligent, self-sustaining way, how much of this awesome bass is getting used. So short answer, yes. It'll sound badass, but there's some special tech coming in the future for that.
