So we've got self-healing in, and it can carry us until the new thing comes in, and that's the transport system?
TL;DRTransport, a full rewrite of transit, is built and drives New Babbage habs internally, with instanced links and trains being added; there are high hopes for 2026, with a tech preview planned only after QA checks fully pass.
Correct. So transport is a complete rewrite of transit, which has a much different approach to how it manages peripherals, things you click on to call up things, gateways, which are the areas at which the carriages stop, and carriages, of course. And so the transport system is a lot more resilient in its approach to streaming problems, which has been a thing in the past for transit. Also, the way it's developed is a lot more robust. And so the state of transport, let's talk about that. So the approach that we've taken for it is, the system is kind of built at this point. And we have a single transport link that we use internally. So not yet on a player-facing build, but we have an internal build of this where the New Babbage habs are completely driven by the transport system. Which is a pretty big milestone for the team, because it means the system is basically kind of fully featured, in terms of it's able to drive one of the major hubs. We are currently working at instancing those transit links. So just to reiterate what I said a little bit back in January, the introduction of instanced hangars, which means dynamic gateways in the transit system, is really what made it a big issue. And so now the team are working at adding that functionality into transport to make sure that we properly support dynamic gateways. Which will allow you to have a transport link to and out of an instance. Now, this could be an instanced hangar. But in the future, it might be an area or location that has some stuff in it. And so that's the state of transport right now: we're working on the instanced transit link and trains. So we've done elevators. And now we're putting trains in with the full feature, and the trains have an additional peripheral, which is the timer, the added timer on top of it.
You've already got the first version. It's already working internally in New Babbage. We're adapting it for instancing. And there's some high hopes that we'll be able to get that in at some point in 2026.
So we are absolutely tech previewing that system, where our goal is going to be to basically, we want to try to do one full location with it, so that that entire location, elevators, trains, all that stuff, is completely transport-driven. And then tech preview that, and make sure that the same methodology and QA checks that we've added for transit are going to have to fully pass before we actually accept to bring it in.
