That's come with some new challenges, though, because now soft-death ships can land on the ground upside down and pin players inside the cockpit.

TL;DRThe speakers acknowledge that pinned players need ways to free themselves and say ship tractor beams are being worked on, while praising soft death for opening new gameplay loops.

Yeah, there's some interesting gameplay that happens from there. Obviously we'll still need to look at ways of freeing yourself and all of that. In some cases, this is what would happen in real life. We will be working on ship tractor beams and those types of things. Then you could have somebody pull you out and flip you over.

To me, soft death unlocks so many possibilities, because it essentially takes what used to be the finality of a gameplay loop (ship blows up, nothing else happens, and then you move on to something else) and opens up new options, new gameplay. It's the start of a new gameplay loop of trying to either board the ship or get the cargo. It was so fun to see the players discovering gameplay around that feature. New stories, man. It's all player stories.
