In designing planets and moons, is there an active effort to include small secrets or Easter eggs on these massive bodies for people to stumble onto, much like the asteroid belt around Yela?

TL;DRHe neither confirms nor denies planned secrets, but expects players to find random, unusual things on the planets as they mature, and Huckaby notes players found one hidden spot faster than intended.

If I say yes, then it's no longer a secret or an Easter egg, right? It's kind of hard to answer then. But if you say no, we'd be lying. Maybe. But at this point, I think, yeah, you're definitely going to find things within these planets as they mature that are going to be awesome and somewhat random as you explore. The nature of the design and the way things are built in, you'll be able to combine multiple things together to get different outcomes and so on, and just with other players in there at the same time and doing things a certain way, it's definitely going to create some unique gameplay experiences. I think as it gets further along and matures, and knowing developers, and hundreds of planets, I'm quite confident that there's going to be some stuff that goes in that will be maybe horrific and comical, but in a good way, right? And I know the moment it goes out, how crazy, in a good way, players are. They'll find it and beat it up and exploit it and so on.

Yes, they found Benny's Henge much faster than we intended. There was a whole quest kind of line that was supposed to go and lead you to it. People were like, hey, blinky light.

And we were joking about it a couple weeks ago that that light was just maybe a little too bright. Maybe if we had just dumbed it down just a little bit.
