As Director of Cinematics, can you explain to everyone what you own here?

TL;DRAs Director of Cinematics he co-directs the Squadron 42 performance-capture shoots and leads the team integrating them into cutscenes, most of which are meant to run in real time.

I think one big part would be the actual narrative PCAP that feeds into all the cinematic scenes for Squadron 42, that we actually go to shoot at Imaginarium. So I would accompany Chris as a kind of co-director, basically directing the actors, while I'm making sure that the staging is correct and the lighting looks good. I'm basically like a virtual director of photography.

So you were there directing with Chris basically every speaking role bit for Squadron, right?

Hannes AppellDirector of Cinematics

Yeah. And we had the main shoot last year and then another pickup shoot in May, July this year.

But ultimately, as director of cinematics, primarily you are responsible for all of the cutscenes for Squadron 42.

Hannes AppellDirector of Cinematics

I'm leading the team here, and we are making sure that the PCAP gets integrated properly into our scenes, and it's a bit tricky with our game because it's not just pre-rendered cinematics. We want to achieve most of them in real time. So it's a constant back and forth and handover with the designers that actually make it happen, so that we can trigger it from AI and back and forth.
