When you're doing Foley, like a guy walking around the hangar deck, do you attach the sound to his foot or to the floor, so that when the foot hits the floor, that section of the floor actually makes the sound?

The end result is exactly the same. The sound emanates from the point where the foot touches the grate, but it's actually on the foot itself.
