Is the mass of cargo still planned to affect ship performance?
TL;DRCargo mass affecting ship performance won't be in this release because loose items in a ship don't contribute mass yet, but it is planned and actively discussed.
Yes, it won't for this release, but it's something that absolutely we've been talking about. Part of the problem is, it's more like we would have done it, in fact, even this release. But there's some interesting, I'll put it, considerations for the physics aspect of it. Right now in the game, it wouldn't be too difficult to make the cargo boxes that are attached to the actual cargo grids impact the mass of the ship. But the problem is that if you were to detach the cargo and just lay it in the ship, it won't. Because anything that's inside the zone of the vehicle doesn't contribute to the mass of the vehicle at the moment. But that's true of anything. You could drop a gun, dead bodies. It doesn't matter. Anything you just chuck into the ship loose is not necessarily contributing to the mass either. So that's kind of a bigger question about how we deal with mass inside ships. And it also feeds into other things about forces and inheriting forces and pushing things around, which we also want to use to encourage people to use cargo grids as an advantage over just dropping stuff in your ship. So we're not there yet. We've absolutely been talking about it actively. It's something that we are planning on adding because we want, again, that to add some interesting decision making as far as not just the ship, but also if you load up a ship full of cargo, we want it to fly slower. You're going to be a little bit more endangered. So if you're a big hauler, you're not going to be as agile while you're moving your cargo. And that might encourage you to want to party with other people who can defend you. And then also on top of that, it can help you make considerations during the loading process. You may want to spread the cargo around in your ship, which will take longer, but it'll make it maybe fly better. So it'll give you some interesting decision making during the loading itself. But yeah, not for this release.
