On interplanetary travel: in Elite Dangerous, supercruise is a little bit slow. Is it going to be more like that, or more like Battlestar Galactica, where it's instant, or something in between, maybe more like EVE, where it goes really fast?
TL;DRQuantum travel masks streaming of new areas so it can't be faster than that, and it should take less time than Elite's frameshift travel, roughly ten minutes across a system at full speed.
Well, basically, what we use quantum travel for, and even the jump point, is to disguise the fact that we've got to stream in the new area we're going to and dump out the old area we're coming from. So it will never be faster than what it takes to stream in the new data and dump out the old data. But in general, also in a gameplay manner, you need to have a certain, like, OK, it takes you so long to go from one side of the system to another side of the system. So it's not just a kind of time lapse or something. So it's kind of hard to say, but I would say that generally compared to Elite and the amount of time you spend in the frameshift drive stuff, it would be less than that. I can't tell you about EVE because I haven't been playing that recently, but we've given the time of taking, if you were at full speed, going from one side of the system to another one, 10 minutes or so.
Yeah, space is big. That's a problem.
