Are there any credible indications that conflict between Sol and Terra could actually lead to some sort of civil war in the UEE? And if that's a real danger, how would each candidate probably handle this crisis?
TL;DRThey see no clear path to civil war while the Vanduul war continues; the Terra-capital issue persists regardless of the winner, and armed conflict would need something like a violent separatist movement.
I personally think that as long as the war with the Vanduul is going on, the military resources of the UEE will be very occupied with that. But once the war with the Vanduul ends, if indeed it ends, well, anything could happen.
Yeah, I don't know, it's a tricky question, because right now Mira Noh obviously is the loudest proponent of: part of my goal is that I want to actually enact a transition. Now, she can't just say it and it happens. So obviously, like Will said, there's a democratic process that has to happen in order for her to pull it off. So it's no guarantee, even if, say, she wins. But again, the idea is, if she does win, then that would become more of a priority. So it could have its reflections. But again, if Titus Costigan wins, there would still be the people who are advocating for Terra to be the new capital, but it doesn't have as much political clout. Yeah, the issue won't go away.
Yeah, Mira Noh could again try to push the agenda in the Senate, where she's a representative, but not being the Imperator, the captain of the UEE ship to a certain degree, she doesn't obviously have the power or the authority to really go in that direction. But she could try legislatively.
Yeah. The Imperator is the head of the UEE, is the figurehead of the UEE. It's not that type of thing. Because, again, they want to get away from that Messer era thing where it's, I decree this, and then that's law. And if you disagree, we'll shoot you.
There's a lot of voices. There's definitely movements on Terra and other systems for separatist things: the UEE has gotten too big. We can't control all these diverse systems with just one centralized government. We should all be ruling ourselves as individual systems. And maybe the loudest version of that is on Terra. But Mira Noh doesn't take that stance. She believes in the empire, but just wants to see the capital relocated for a Terra-centric view of the government. And it's interesting to think about whether the UEE would actually go to the point of a civil war if a system applied to separate from the empire, or whether it would be a peaceful transition.
Because there have been... Karen rejected its representation and its recognition after the Messer era. So they did have senators. And they were so disgusted by what happened under the Messers that once they got out, they said, we don't want to be considered a recognized planet, and basically vacated their seats. So I think to get to armed conflict, there's always a path for it, but it's not necessarily a clear one. It would have to be pretty obvious, like a violent separatist movement trying to kickstart something. But yeah, who knows.
