Do the particles collide with objects in the scene?asked by Kilmark

TL;DRYes, via a first-pass, cheap GPU screen-space collision that has limits (particles vanish when behind a wall) and can be worked around with a separate non-colliding effect, with the feature set still to be fleshed out.

You can see it bouncing off the boxes now.

Yeah, so this is actually screen space collision, which is one of my favorite settings that we've got. We've got plans to flesh out the feature set. It's the first pass at the screen space collision. It's a GPU, it's a Z-buffer collision, and it's much, much cheaper than the CPU collision that we have on the old CPU particles. It does have its limitations, because it's a visual thing. If I go behind this wall, you'll see that all of a sudden it's gone. It's because it's taken it from the point of emission. So it thinks that there's nothing there now. So what we would typically do for an effect like this, I'd probably create another version of that effect. Could just do it now. I'm even going to name it as I would. Paste that in. So all I've done there is basically just copied and pasted. One of the nice things about this VFX editor is that what we're seeing here, this library, we call it a particle library, this is basically an XML file. So the copying and pasting process is just very straightforward. We can even copy and paste directly in XML, like in Notepad++ or something. Okay, so I've duplicated it. I've unticked the screen space collision. What I'm going to do is I'm just going to halve that count. So I'm splitting it out now. Half of them are going to have screen space collision, the other half aren't. And what that should mean is that you can still see these particles here. They're not being culled anymore. So that's just one of the ways that we would potentially work on that. The problem that I'd have there is that because these aren't colliding, they're going to just go through the floor. So like I say, we need to flesh out the feature set. It's all in the schedule. It's all there somewhere.

So you've got two particles going simultaneously right now. One is colliding with the floor, the other one is not colliding with the floor.

Exactly, yeah. And technically it's one effect still. In the hierarchy, this is just a child.
