Have you considered side ramps?

TL;DRSide ramps haven't been considered; one concept ship once had them but they didn't survive, and ramp angle limits mean long ramps need a lot of space.

John CreweVehicle Director

No. We did have a concept ship where it had side ramps as part of the brief. I think it may have been the Corsair, but it never survived.

At one point the Corsair, yeah.

John CreweVehicle Director

It had side ramps. But a good point on the ramp stuff is that we do have metrics for the angles, and we can't go over a certain amount, which means if you have a ship that has loads of stuff on the bottom of it, it's going to be 10, 15 meters up in the air. You have a 10, 15, 20 degree ramp coming off the back; it could be 50 meters long by the time it gets to the ground, and then you've got to have somewhere to put a 50 meter ramp in the ship.

And it's something that I've been talking about today with the Lifter, making sure that ramps are fit for purpose and are long enough and the correct angle and everything, because you don't want to drive yourself into the back of it and just get wedged.
