What tools do you prefer to use to create the awesome music you create?
TL;DRHe works in Cubase on powerful PCs with large Kontakt sample libraries, commercial and privately recorded orchestral libraries, lots of percussion, and two hardware synths, preferring live musicians when deadlines allow.
Well, first of all, thank you so much for enjoying it and saying it's awesome. That's very kind. I keep repeating this, but one of the best things this game has is the community. It's such a supportive community. Thank you a lot. The tools: I personally use Cubase, because I started using it in 2008, and all the music I've done up until now is on PC. It's a beefy PC, a really big one. I have two. If you want details, they're fast Core i9s with 128 gigabytes of RAM each, and it has 12 SSD drives. It's not all M.2. It's four M.2s, 8 terabytes, and the rest are normal SSDs, and they all have large capacities. Pretty much 70% of the capacity is filled with libraries running in Kontakt, which connects to Cubase, and Cubase handles everything, not just Kontakt, because you have a lot of synths.
Also, just as Geoff has his own private orchestral library from Hans Zimmer, I recorded two private orchestras for myself. Of course, we always prefer to use live musicians, and I always intend to have everything recorded with live musicians, but because of deadlines and so on it's not always possible. So to get a bit more realism, even though I own almost every commercial library that exists, and they have a lot of strengths and I use every single one you can think of, Spitfire, Orchestral Tools, Vienna, CineSamples, so many good ones, and I'm just speaking about the orchestral part, I also recorded my own stuff and it sounds really great. It was done by the guy who now runs Performance Samples, who's a great sampling guru. One of them was done by him for me and four other people, and then there's another one which was done just for me. And I really think it makes a difference in the quality of the orchestral part. Then you get the percussion, which is a whole other world, with hundreds of terabytes of percussion that I either recorded myself or purchased. And then there are synths, which are hardware synths. I've got a Moog One here, which I use, and a Sub 37, which I really like. Those are the only hardware I use. There are a couple of other good ones, but these feel most appropriate to my workflow right now.
