Is that just changing the key [when you record a grim version of the same music]?

Geoff ZanelliComposer, Squadron 42

Actually, it's not changing the key, because that would make it more difficult to transition into and out of, but other techniques that our musicians can use are how fast it is, how busy it is, how dark it is, so all the different arrangements. It isn't always even necessarily the same melody when it switches to grim. There might be a new melody that comes in that's more doom and gloom, or something a little more heroic, or sometimes it's not melodic at all. It's just a tonal shift. And in some cases, it's really subtle. In other cases, you're going to really feel it. The player is actually almost in control of what the music is doing in a way. If they're winning, it rewards you.
