What about performance? Does this matter?
TL;DRPerformance matters, but what counts depends on the ship's purpose, such as luxury for a yacht-like ship or combat ability for fighters and gunships.
I mean, yeah, obviously. But it also doesn't matter to everyone. Because there's a certain place in my heart for the 890 where I just like the image of living this luxury lifestyle and I don't care what its performance is.
That delivers what it laid out to deliver. Its sole purpose is to be a luxury ship and it performs very well at being a luxury ship.
Performance means different things in that context though, right?
Well, performance means different things based on what the ship we're talking about is. So in terms of the 890, its performance, I suppose, is how luxurious it feels. It handles like a super yacht, because it is a super yacht, but what would you say quantifies the 890 performing is it delivering the luxury experience. You're not talking about its combat capabilities when you're talking about performance, because it's not a combat ship. But if you're talking about the Gladius or the Hammerhead, you're talking about its combat capabilities: how well the Hammerhead's turrets can screen you from fighters, or how well the Gladius can do in a 1v1 dogfight and combat. So the performance is based on what the goal is to achieve with the ship. So performance matters, but what performance matters depends on what the ship's for.
