Calix Reneau · Senior Systems DesignerYeah, the eyebrows are baked in.
Sean Tracy · Technical Director of ContentSame texture and same problem. Around your eyebrows, you do get a different specular reaction. And we actually have to paint out the gloss around the eyebrows, because it ends up looking really fake when light rolls. Oh man, faces have so much subtle stuff in them that if it's not there, it completely breaks down. But within the eyebrows, we paint out the gloss in that area. So basically, we make it less glossy around the eyebrows. The reason we do that is it looks a lot less fake. They're part of the texture right now. What I've talked to Corey about, it's the same problem as scalps. We have to make sure we remove all the base hair out of some of our texture scans. So when the guys were scanned for textures, they had little beanie caps on with their hair sticking out and stuff. We've got to remove all of that, because now we have a generic scalp that we can apply, and we need a scalp because it has directionality on it for when the specular rolls around. And then you put the hair on top of that, but you can't have other hair underneath, because your hairline then doesn't line up to what the scalp is, and it can look really weird. So basically what I'm saying is we're going to treat eyebrows the same as hair.
