Why are client-side and server-side OCS split? Why aren't we just working on both at the same time?

Clive JohnsonLead Network Programmer, Foundry 42

Server-side streaming requires some extra technologies that we haven't got yet. So by working purely on client-side streaming, we're getting some of the benefit onto our clients, and we're not having to do all the technology at once. The kind of extra pieces that we need for server-side streaming: once a server decides to unload some entities, what happens to them? They're going to have to be persisted out in their current state, and then we're going to have to reload that state back in. It's not clear if we need full persistence to work, but it's going to have to be something pretty close to full persistence to get server-side streaming to work.
