Wouldn't it have made more sense to just take 3.24 down and force everybody into 4.0 like we've done every other December in the past?

That was our typical decision, typically, was to just go for it. In this case, I think it shows a change of mentality, which is that we're trying to respect our live environment a bit more. And so the decision was taken to just allow players to keep playing 3.24 as even a fallback or as their primary play environment, if they preferred, while you could jump on the preview experiment and then just see, try the new content out, but then always have your stable experience to go back to.
