How are the temperature differences between night and day on a planet or moon calculated? Do they depend on the atmosphere, the distance to the star, or other factors?

So basically, when we do the initial calculations, it is based off the distance to the star and then atmosphere. For example, Aberdeen is really, really hot, and we knew that that one was going to be very similar to Venus. So then we have what we consider a min-max of basically the temperature at its hottest point and then at its coolest point. And then throughout the day, it just cycles through that.
